SMS Science Summer 2024

Dear SMS Parents,

If you are interested in giving your child a distinct advantage vs other students pursuing a future STEM career or to just shore up their current skills be sure to take advantage of this golden opportunity. The SMS Science Summer Camp 2024 was specifically designed with a distinct combination of solid conceptual content, related mathematics, and effective hands-on activities by a 25 year veteran of middle, high, and university teaching. Our unique courses will instill in your child core knowledge and effective skills to aid him or her throughout middle school, high school, and beyond. Choose one or choose to have your child attend them all. Our low weekly fees, catholic identity, and safe family atmosphere make this an awesome deal. Invest in your child’s future today. Class size is limited to 10 students in order to provide the optimum student to teacher ratio, so act quickly to receive your child spot, as seats will be filling up fast.

Days: Classes will be held 4 days/week, Monday - Thursday

Time: from 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM.

Fees- $85/ weekly session payable by cash or check addressed to SMS Berea

Physical Science Concepts: vectors, scalers, distance vs displacement, speed, velocity, and acceleration,

Math skills: number lines, use of integers, cartesian coordinate plane, basic algebra, vector addition

Tool usage skills: compass, protractors, motion sensors

Grades 6-8

Registration and Fee Due: Friday, May 31 2024

Topics covered: Forces and Dynamics

Physical Science Concepts: vectors, scalers, mass, gravity, gravitational field, normal force, friction, and Newton's Laws of Motion.

Math skills: use of integers, cartesian coordinate plane, basic algebra, vector addition

Tool usage skills: force meter, protractors and motion sensors

July 8th-11th Join here

Grades 6-8

Registration and Fee Due: Friday, June 7, 2024

Topics covered: Heat and Fluid Mechanics

Physical Science Concepts: heat, temperature, temperature scales, temperature conversions, states of matter, heat transfer, buoyant force, archimedes principle, density, pascal's principle, and bernoulli's principle.

Math skills: basic algebra

Tool usage skills: thermometers, balance, and scales

Topics covered: Electricity and Magnetism

Physical Science Concepts: charges, law of charges, laws of conservation of charges, current, resistance, and basic circuits.

Math skills: integers, basic algebra

Tool usage skills: compass, multimeter, magnetometer
