Thank you for your interest in St. Mary School located in beautiful Berea, Ohio!  The SMS faculty and staff are dedicated to provide an enriching and fulfilling education experience.  We are a Christian environment representing Christian values. St. Mary School is a well known educational institution where students are provided a Christian setting that fosters development in both knowledge and faith, laying a foundation for a productive, faith-filled & enriched life. Our goal is to develop each student into upstanding disciples within the community, as well as academic scholars. Student’s benefit from a well-rounded curriculum consisting of Reading Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Spelling, Computers, Religion, Foreign Language, Music and Physical Education.

What We Offer

Preschool

  • Two-day program for 3-yr-old children
  • Three and four day Pre-Kindergarten program for 4 or 5-yr-old children
  • Extended care available Monday – Friday (when in session)

Students learn in an atmosphere of Christian love and concern that promotes the health and development of each child, with an emphasis on preparing the child for elementary school.

Kindergarten

  • Five days a week schedule
  • Class days from 9:00 am to 3:10 pm

Elementary

  • Fully accredited K through 8th grade program
  • Kindergarten Classes from 9:00 am to 3:10 pm
  • 1st Grade through 8th Grade 9:00 am to 3:20 pm

Academic programs designed to promote self-reliance, strong moral values, technological proficiency, educational excellence, and physical well-being. Most graduates are able to gain admission into any high school they choose.

Extended Care Program

  • Daily program for both before and after school
  • Available year round for all registered and enrolled students
  • Doors open at 6:30 am and close at 6:00 pm

Transportation

  • St. Mary School is serviced by many local city school districts including Berea, Brook Park, Middleburg Heights, Olmsted Falls, and Strongsville.
  • Transportation reimbursement is available through Cleveland, Parma, North Ridgeville, North Royalton and many others.

Current Enrollment

The Pre3-Grade 8 enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year is 236 students.

Academics

St. Mary School is fully accredited by the State of Ohio and the Cleveland Catholic Diocese. Our primary focus is to prepare each student to be successful at the high school level. This is achieved through the use of traditional classroom teaching methods blended with the use of current technologies. In addition, students receive Spanish instruction from grades K – 8.

Child Care

We understand the changing demands on today’s families. We offer extended care programs, both before and after the school day, and also during the summer months for enrolled students who are registered for the child care program. Your child has the opportunity to use this time to socialize with other students, or study in a quiet environment.

Athletics

In addition to physical education classes, all students in grades 3 - 8 have the opportunity to participate in CYO athletics. Go Chargers!

Parents

Parents play a vital role at St. Mary School. You have the opportunity to participate in our PTO. Our PTO encourages all parents to become an active participant in the educational process of their children as well as providing opportunities for family social events.

Screening for Employees and Volunteers

All employees and volunteers who have contact with students undergo a thorough screening, including background checks through the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification (BCI&I).  For complete information on screening policies, see the revised Policy for the Safety of Children in Matters of Sexual Abuse, section 1.2(p.3)
